PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Localvino is a multi-phase research project to be carried out by a consortium formed by different companies, research centers and organizations, focused on studying the applicability of Blockchain technologies and IoT (Internet of Things) in the wine production chain. The project will investigate under controlled conditions the application of technologies in the wine sector that will integrate the entire value chain of the sector through digitization and product traceability.

The project proposes to work on three specific objectives:
– Conceptualize the design of a management application to provide accurate information on the origin and quality of wines based on the needs of Regulatory Boards.
– Investigate and implement a pilot in a controlled environment of an IoT Platform for efficient real-time harvest control to ensure product quality.
– Design and implement the pilot of a traceability system to the final consumer.

It is, therefore, a project included in the European strategy that is committed to innovation and digitalization and aims, broadly speaking, to eliminate food fraud, optimize harvesting, certification and control processes, provide a robust and reliable traceability system, and ultimately improve consumer confidence through transparency and information and increase the value of primary sector products by reinforcing their typicality and uniqueness, promoting traceability from the field to the table.

This project is absolutely unique and innovative and will provide the Spanish wine sector with a tool that differentiates it from all other wine producers, boosting the competitiveness and sustainability of a very important sector in our economy.

The project is planned in three phases. During the first two phases, the objective is to analyze the production processes and identify the key points to implement an effective control throughout the process, and to design a prototype to validate the technological tool for the wine sector that integrates the entire value chain of the sector through the digitization and traceability of the product.

In the third phase, the focus is on the following fundamental aspects:
– Incorporate into traceability other processes
– Extend the results of previous phases to all traceability in a warehouse.
– Study the interoperability of the Blockchain system with other warehouse management systems
– Increase the operation time and improve the performance of IoT devices.
