LIFE CHANDELIER

TITLE OF THE PROJECT:

EnhanCed veHicular biomethANe proDuction at small-mEdium scale using Lignocellulosic agrI-food wastE in Rural areas.

GENERAL DATA:

Program: LIFE ENERGY+ LIFE CLIMA 23 EU
Reference: 101158168
RESOLUTION Date: 07/06/2024
Execution date: 01/09/2024-31/08/2027

PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The main objective of the LIFE CHANDELIER project is to develop an innovative, efficient, traceable and sustainable system for the production of vehicular biomethane on a small and medium scale using waste from agriculture and the food industry in rural areas. This project seeks to foster the circular economy through the use of waste and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions while boosting sustainability in rural areas by promoting energy self-sufficiency in these regions.
The project will be validated in the demonstrator located at the biogas production plant in Valderrobres, Teruel. A pilot plant of modular design will be developed there to facilitate the scalability and replicability of the project. The modules will include an innovative thermoextrusion system for the pretreatment of lignocellulosic agro-food waste, an anaerobic digester for co-digestion tests and the generation of biogas and biomethane streams, a biogas upgrading system based on hydrophobic membrane technologies and a bioCNG refueling station for heavy vehicles.
In this way, the technologies necessary for a sustainable biomethane production that guarantees both economic profitability and replicability and scalability in other plants will be deployed and demonstrated in the same plant.
