PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

Artificial intelligence can help improve the planning of productive operations by providing a better understanding of data and information. AI is capable of analyzing large amounts of data and detecting patterns and trends in it. This allows companies to identify bottlenecks in the supply chain and improve production efficiency.
In addition, it can be used to develop predictive models (supervised machine learning techniques) that can predict when defects will occur in manufactured products or when a productive resource will fail, drastically reducing non-quality costs. This allows companies to anticipate and always be one step ahead of undesired phenomena in the production process and plan accordingly.
Artificial intelligence can also be used to characterize production (unsupervised machine learning techniques), i.e., to analyze and understand production patterns. Production characterization involves the identification of patterns and trends in production data, such as production efficiency, product quality and resource utilization.
This project focuses on the application of machine learning techniques for production characterization using data available in the consortium companies, for each of which a use case is proposed based on its own characteristics: type of manufacturing, available information, type of demand, available production resources, etc.
The general objective of the project is to develop innovative actions based on Artificial Intelligence technologies to improve decision making in the operations planning processes in industrial companies.
The implementation of this project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:

  • To characterize the processes currently developed in the companies with a focus on production processes based on the advanced analysis of production data, identifying opportunities for improvement based on the analyses performed.
  • Identify patterns, characteristics and common problems in the participating companies in relation to the performance of their production operating processes.
  • This specific objective seeks to analyze and compare how production operations are carried out in the different companies included in the consortium to identify similar or recurring elements. In this way, it is intended to detect trends and patterns that can be used to improve the efficiency and productivity of its processes.
  • Examples of common patterns may include the use of certain technologies, the data capture system in the plant and its storage and management, the production control systems, the KPIs used, etc. Common problems can also be identified, such as inefficient use of resources, the presence of bottlenecks in the production process or excessive time spent on certain operations (e.g. tooling changeover). The identification of common patterns and problems in these production processes will be important to propose specific solutions that will help improve efficiency and productivity, either through the adoption of best practices, the implementation of advanced technologies or the optimization of existing processes. For this reason, we intend to detect areas of opportunity and propose actions for improvement.
  • Develop a planning tool demonstrator(s) adapted to the common situations identified.
