Impairment evaluation

ITA’s Climatic Laboratory performs climatic tests aimed at evaluating the type and degree of deterioration that a material, component or product may undergo when subjected to extreme thermal or climatic conditions.

  • Corrosion tests

Corrosion tests are intended to simulate extreme corrosive environments in order to compare the resistance of materials and/or their coatings to corrosion.

    Corrosion tests

    • Corrosion tests with salt spray:
      • Laboratory accredited by ENAC for corrosion testing with neutral salt spray according to UNE-EN ISO 9227.
      • Several 400 and 1000L chambers available.
    • Cyclic corrosion tests combining several types of corrosive climates within the same equipment (salt spray, condensation, drying, cold, heat… )(tests according to the following standards: Ford CETP:00.00-L-467, Renault D17-2028 (ECC1), GMW14872, VDA 621-415, Volkswagen PV 1210, Volvo STD 423-0014, JASO M609 and M610, UNE-EN ISO 11997-1, UNE-EN 60068-2-52, PV1210, PV1208, VDA621, ASTM G85-02).
    • Resistance to filiform corrosion (UNE-EN ISO 4623).
    • Corrosion of metallic and non-organic coatings on metallic substrates (UNE-EN ISO 10289).
    • Verification of the corrosivity category of a paint system (UNE-EN ISO 12944-6).

  • Aging with light

These tests reproduce the effects of aging when materials are exposed, in actual end-use environments, to sunlight.

    Tests for light aging

    • UV Aging
      • Ultraviolet (UV) light is the main responsible for the degradation of materials exposed to the elements. With this UV light chamber, specimens are exposed to different irradiance levels under controlled environmental conditions (temperature and humidity). The irradiation stages can also be alternated with condensation or water spraying stages.
Some test standards that can be performed with this chamber are UNE-EN ISO 4892-3 and UNE-EN ISO 12944-6, among others.
  • Climatic tests

Climatic tests allow you to determine the influence of temperature and humidity on the properties, functionality and durability of your products.

    Climatic tests

    • Condensation atmosphere. Moisture resistance tests
      • Single-sided exposure. UNE- EN ISO 6270-1.
      • Booth exposure. UNE- EN ISO 6270-2.
    • Climatic tests
      • Tailor-made or standard tests under cyclic or constant conditions.
      • They combine temperature (from -45 ºC to 180ºC) and humidity (10 to 98%).
      • Several climatic chambers of different capacities are available.
      • Large climatic chamber type WALK-IN (20000L).
    • Thermal aging in stoves or muffles
      • Several stoves and muffles of different capacities are available.
      • Large stoves (600 L).
  • Paints, coatings, etc.

CLIMATIC TESTS FOR PAINTS AND COATINGS

    • Verification of the corrosivity category of a paint system (UNE-EN ISO 12944-6)
    • Corrosion tests :
      • Salt fog corrosion. Laboratory accredited by ENAC for corrosion testing with neutral salt spray according to UNE-EN ISO 9227:2012.
      • Cyclic corrosion (UNE-EN ISO 11997-1, UNE-EN 60068-2-52, PV1210, PV1208, VDA621, ASTM G85-02)
      • Resistance to filiform corrosion (UNE-EN ISO 4623)
      • Corrosion of metallic and non-organic coatings on metallic substrates (UNE-EN ISO 10289)
    • Moisture resistance. Water condensation atmosphere (UNE-EN ISO 6270-2 and UNE-EN ISO 6270-1 )
    • Climatic aging with constant or cyclic temperature and humidity conditions. Large capacity climatic chamber (2 m x 4 m)
    • Evaluation of the degradation of coatings (UNE-EN ISO 4628):
      • Degree of blistering, rusting, cracking, peeling, plastering
      • Degree of delamination and corrosion from one incision
