PRESENTATION AND OBJECTIVES:

The present project is the second phase of a previous project of the same name, which took place in the 22-23 period. The objective of this second phase is research in flexible additive manufacturing technologies, using robotic and intelligent technology, through an expert supervision system based on vision and artificial intelligence technologies and digital twinning of sustainable materials. The research and application of these technologies will allow the optimization of additive manufacturing processes towards greater efficiency and sustainability.

Together with the use of sustainable materials, the research and integration of the proposed technologies is expected to lead to zero-defect manufacturing, significantly improving the environmental impact of these processes. More than 70% of additive manufacturing applications are focused on the industrial sector. 55% of the use in this sector is in the field of prototyping, functional prototyping and short series.

Occasionally, given the characteristics of technical materials and their manufacturing processes, deviations and errors occur in manufacturing that lead to failed parts or prints (according to internal estimates up to 50%). The costs of this non-quality include wasted material, energy consumption and time spent using printing equipment. The proposed solution is expected to reduce this rejection to a minimum, even allowing rework or recovery of defective parts.

The analyses carried out in the project will also make it possible to detect new needs and design new applications related to additive manufacturing (hybrid manufacturing / increase the number of heads / materials / overprinting / component insertion / machining / etc.).
